Community Agreement

Terms of Service

The ground rules for participating in the Hive Social community.

Effective Date: June 2, 2026

A Simple Summary

Hive is a place for learning and community. By using it, you agree to be kind, respect others' privacy, and follow your school's code of conduct. Our AI helps keep things safe by checking posts for toxicity, and your teachers/admins have the final say on community standards.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Hive Social, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and your school district's Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). If you do not agree to these terms, you may not use the service.

2. Eligibility & Account Security

  • Access is limited to students and staff of participating school districts with valid SSO credentials.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.

3. Content Moderation & AI Disclosure

Hive Social utilizes Advanced Artificial Intelligence (Google Gemini) to monitor and moderate content in real-time.

What You Should Know

Content is automatically scanned for toxicity, hate speech, bullying, and inappropriate material. If the AI flags your content, it may be blocked, and your school administrators will be notified. These AI-driven assessments are used to calculate your "Safety Score" and determine if account restrictions are necessary.

4. Prohibited Conduct

You agree NOT to use the service to:

Harass, bully, or threaten other students.
Post sexually explicit or violent content.
Impersonate teachers, staff, or other students.
Share private information of others (doxing).
Attempt to bypass security filters.
Promote illegal activities or substances.

5. Ownership of Content

You retain ownership of the content you post. However, by posting to Hive Social, you grant Hive Social and your school district a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, monitor, and store that content for educational and safety purposes.

6. Termination of Access

School administrators reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to Hive Social at any time for violations of these Terms or the school's code of conduct.

7. Student Data Privacy & FERPA Compliance

HIVE is fully committed to student data privacy and operates in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

For all student users, HIVE acts as a designated "School Official" under the direct control and supervision of the participating school district. If HIVE and your school district have executed a bilateral Student Data Privacy Agreement (SDPA) or Data Privacy Addendum (DPA), the terms of that agreement will govern and supersede these Terms of Service in the event of any conflict.
